Lawsuit filed against university due to discrimination

On Behalf of | Apr 12, 2018 | Uncategorized

Many people often have the same job for decades. They likely chose their career path at a relatively young age and worked hard to obtain the position they desired. While they may have worked those many years without much incident, a sudden change could easily result in a once friendly work environment turning hostile due to discrimination.

New York residents may be interested in such a situation that recently took place in another state. Reports indicated that an African-American woman had worked at a university for nearly 30 years. In that time, she had never received any reprimand in regard to her work performance. However, when a new interim director was named for her department, she claims that she began facing hostile treatment.

The appointed director was described as a white man, and the woman claims that she started being treated more strictly than other workers and was reprimanded and belittled while on the job. She believes that the director discriminated against her due to her race, and she also stated that he had indicated that he could not work with her because he did not trust her. The woman has filed a legal claim against the university in hopes of seeking compensation for the damages this treatment has caused.

It is unfortunate that a single person’s actions could easily turn a once-loved job into a dreaded experience. When workers face discrimination in the workplace from even a single co-worker or manager, their lives can face much turmoil. If New York residents believe that they have been mistreated on the job due to their race, they may wish to consider taking legal action of their own.
