McDonald’s facing multiple claims of sexual harassment at work

On Behalf of | Nov 18, 2019 | Employment Litigation

Feeling unsafe or otherwise mistreated in the workplace can be difficult to handle. Some workers may think that they have to put up with the mistreatment because there is no other option, and others may want to take legal action to address sexual harassment and other issues. In such cases, knowing one’s rights can be important.

New York readers may be interested in a proposed class action lawsuit involving McDonald’s. According to reports, a female employee indicated that she and approximately 50 other workers have filed sexual harassment complaints with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission within the last three years. The woman stated that she began facing harassment soon after starting her position and that it went on for over a year.

She indicated that her general manager ignored the incidents even though a co-worker physically assaulted her and called her names in front of others. She was later transferred to another location, but her harasser stayed at the initial location. It was noted that of those approximately 50 cases, some were still under investigation and others were in mediation.

It can be immensely difficult to think about going into work when employees know that they will face mistreatment. Even more harrowing is the fact that they believe their superiors will do nothing to stop sexual harassment and other similar behaviors. If New York workers believe that they have faced such issues on the job, they may want to reach out to experienced employment law attorneys who could help them determine what steps they could take to address such issues.
